Ethical Tech & Digital Sustainability

We firmly believe that digital technology can only be considered progress if it is inclusive, ethical, and sustainable. That is why we support concrete initiatives to raise awareness, provide training, and mobilize people around responsible digital practices that serve the public interest.

Social Impact Hackathons : Innovation in Action

To spark innovative solutions to the social challenges of the digital age, we organize open-access hackathons. These collaborative events focus on developing technology that is leaner, more accessible, and more ethical. Participants including students, corporate employees, and partners, collaborate on projects tackling critical issues such as: Reducing the digital carbon footprint. Enhancing web accessibility for all users (ADA compliance and beyond). Mitigating algorithmic bias in automated systems. These hackathons foster active engagement, collective intelligence, and a practical roadmap for driving systemic change.

Masterclasses : The Ethics of AI

Since 2024, we have scaled our focus on Artificial Intelligence by launching a series of regional Masterclasses. These sessions explore the ethical, societal, and environmental implications of AI. Our goal is to equip participants particularly young professionals in training with the framework needed to use these technologies responsibly. Key discussion topics include: Algorithmic transparency and preventing discriminatory bias. Data privacy and consumer protection. Environmental impact and the energy consumption of large language models (LLMs). Each session blends theoretical knowledge with real-world case studies and open debate to encourage a civic-minded, critical approach to tech.

"The time has come to take a proactive stance and become leaders in lean, responsible Generative AI solutions that meet every requirement: ESG goals, digital transformation, and a genuine sense of mission."

Commit to

Increasing the representation of women in the digital sector remains a major challenge. Even today, women account for less than 30% of the sector’s workforce, with even wider gaps in technical roles. In light of this reality, the Simplon Foundation is taking action to drive change by supporting inclusive tech collectives led by and for women.
